Polygala flowers in May

The striking, delicate design of Polygala (rhymes with Caligula…sort of…) flowers, sketched, then painted from photos taken in May on a neighbourhood walk.

These weren’t intended to be watercolour paintings, only field journal sketches, but I couldn’t resist the colours, so did quick colour glazes over the ink drawings. I must really paint them properly on watercolour paper.

I used Quinacridone Magenta and Dioxazine Violet for the petals, and dropped in a little too much Cobalt Blue to the bottom left petal.
